FishFood Media began as a webhosting and web design ministry about 10 years ago now. The vision and purpose was always simply to serve God's kingdom by sharing my technical skills with others.

Hosting Platform

So being a Christian hosting company means I'm running a pokey little 'web server' in the corner of a bedroom, right? Wrong.

FishFood Media has always prided itself on giving the very best to God's kingdom and God's service. The FishFood server is itself a monster of a machine, it is housed in a multimillion pound (or should that be dollar?) datacentre in the States, where it is monitored and managed 24-7-365 by a team of engineers who are paid to respond immediately to any problems arising.

all data is backed up on a daily, weekly and monthly rotation. The operating system is considered by many to be one of the best available for this application. The heart of the server consists of dual dual-core processors (yes, that dual dual-core). Plenty of RAM, RAIDed hard drives with plenty of capacity for many more. And most of all - the server load is carefully monitored so that we are confident the server is not overloaded, but running optimally for each client using its resources.

It is also connected to a super high bandwidth connection, allowing 20Mbps continuous (not peak) data transfer. That's 20Mb every second of every day and every night if necessary, bring pulled from high speed high capacity disks.

What's the downside? 

Well there isn't really one at all. We have worked hard to utilise the best hardware, software, and personnel available. The only possible downside is that there is only one server currently. We don't have the resources to spread to multiple servers to act as a redundancy in case the server is down for whatever reason. But no hosting company can guarantee 100% uptime. What we can say is that downtime happens very very rarely. The only customer who has ever left FishFood has done so because someone in their church setup their own hosting company and they felt they should really go and support them! Quite right too.  

By working in this way, FishFood Media provides the very best platform for your hosting needs, while keeping the cost as low as possible. There are other cheaper hosting companies available, but not with nearly so many resources available to you, or such a high spec server running your website for you.

Control Panel - every client has full access to self-administer their hosting account, including webmail, email accounts, forwarding addresses, CGI, perl, php, mysql, FTP accounts, web stats, spam filtering, search engine submission, and so on and so on. It's pretty much everything you could ever want.

Shoutcast Server - if you would like to run your own radio station you can use the services of FishFood's built in Shoutcast server technology which allows you to setup a streaming mp3 radio station.

Scripts library - not only are there the usual run of the mill CGI scripts available, but for BigFish and BigFish Pro accounts you also get access to the amazing Fantastico library of scripts, offering you one click installation of many of the leading web application and website technologies available today. they offer you immediate power features on your website, for nothing!

Spam Filtering - every account includes full spam filtering technology, server side. That means that emails coming into any of your FishFood hosted email accounts get filtered before they reach your inbox.  you have full control over this process, making the filtering harder or softer, whitelisting or blacklisting certain domains or addresses, using a SpamBox to catch all the spam, or choosing to delete it permanently, bounce it back to the sender or rewrite the subject line to receive into your normal inbox and filter it there. It's a hugely powerful and accurate means of solving the spam problems for you and all your users.

Helpdesk - there is an online helpdesk to log any problems you have. Alongside this you can always call Evan, or post on the FishFood forum. Help is never very far away, and is always very personal and hands on.
